Fire Survivor Launches Independent Social Network Following Censorship and Harassment by Government Agencies on Mainstream Platforms

LOS ANGELES, CA — December 18, 2025Fire Rebuild announces the launch of a dedicated digital space created by and for fire survivors. The platform was established as a direct response to systematic censorship on mainstream social media and documented instances of verbal abuse by public utility and emergency service accounts.

Restoring a Voice to the Silenced

While social network platforms like Nextdoor and Meta (Instagram and Facebook) have frequently flagged or deleted posts from survivors seeking accountability, they have simultaneously failed to moderate aggressive behavior from public agency representatives. The Fire Rebuild Social Network prioritizes the survivor’s truth, providing an uncensored environment for information sharing, recovery resources, and emotional support.

Documented Failures in Content Moderation

The decision to migrate to a private network follows several high-profile incidents where mainstream platforms denied requests to remove harassing comments directed at victims:

  • LADWP on Nextdoor:
Following the December 2 announcement that fire rebuild fee waivers would be postponed, victims expressed their frustration. Wanda Lett, a Customer Service Representative from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) responded to a survivor by stating: “Move. No one is forcing you to stay.” Nextdoor declined to remove the comment.
  • Fire Department on Meta Instagram:
After a survivor posted regarding the fire department’s January 7th “stand down” orders during the Pacific Palisades and Malibu fires, an account linked to the Fire Department engaged in personal attacks. The account called the victim a “milk toast crybaby that can’t accept responsibility” and added, “crying like a little girl on a phone app is why you will always be a victim.” Instagram took no action against the comment by saying Meta “found that it does not go against our Community Standards.”

Suppression of Factual Information

In addition to allowing harassment, mainstream platforms have actively suppressed the voices of the survivor community. Fire survivors have reported a consistent pattern of factual posts being removed under the guise of being “disrespectful.”

Furthermore, efforts to alert the community about this censorship were themselves censored; posts stating that Nextdoor has been removing survivor content were subsequently deleted, effectively silencing any discussion regarding the platform’s bias and lack of transparency.

A Protected Space for Recovery

The Fire Rebuild Social Network operates under a strict survivor first policy. Unlike mainstream algorithms that often prioritize engagement over safety, this network enforces a zero-tolerance policy for bullying or the silencing of victims.

Any accounts found attacking or silencing fire survivors will face an immediate and permanent ban.
